I want to be a vegan but wheat products give me digestive problems. Is it going to be possible to stay healthy eating only fruit, veggies, and soy?

Very difficult. There’s simply not any real energy sources there.

If wheat products give you stomach issues you may have Celiac disease or even a mild allergy to what products. The important thing is that you NEED complex carbs. Consider brown rice as an option or lentils. Before you make any changes or decisions in your diet I would talk to your family physician just to make sure you’re going to be able to maintain a healthy weight.
So you’re vegetarian AND vegan AND gluten free? Soy is healthy if eaten in reasonable amounts. It can actually cause some health problems if you eat too much.
Fruits and veggies are great. Make sure, when cooking veggies, you sometimes use some olive oil or other healthy fats. There are some great ways to cook veggies that are delicious. Like with extra firm tofu, veggies, butternut squash, spices, fresh garlic. Don’t forget to add beans to your diet. They have some calories, a good source of protein and so many possible dishes you can make.
Instead of pasta, add quinoa (pronounceed keen-wa) pasta to your diet. It’s wheat/gluten free, a VERY good source of protein, delicious, and you won’t know the difference from wheat pastas, and it greatly adds to the list of possible dishes. I use it myself for several dishes… not because I have to, but because it’s very healthy, and it’s good.
So my answer is a resounding “Yes”, you can maintain a healthy body weight on a vegetarian, vegan, gluten free diet!! When I find I have to cook for people with various limitations or needs when it comes to diet, it has surprised me me how really UN-limited the choices are. I guarantee you, you are not as limited as you might think.
I’d highly recommend enjoying lots of avocados, nuts, oils, legumes, and quinoa.
I agree with the answerer above me. You are certainly not limited to fruit, veggies, and soy. There are plenty of wheat-free options out there! For grains and psuedo-grains, there are: Brown rice, quinoa, millet, oats, spelt, barley, sorghum, rye, buckwheat, and amaranth. You also have a wide variety of legumes including: Chickpeas, black beans, kidney beans, lentils, faba beans, mung beans, cow beans, lima beans, and azuki beans. Not to mention that there are also nuts and seeds like almonds, walnuts, and sunflower seeds.
If you eat enough, and centre your meals around the more calorie-dense of your options (like grains and beans), you should absolutely be able to maintain a healthy body weight! Many nuts are very fatty, so try including a little every day. Put a tablespoon of peanut-butter on your toast, or snack on some trail mix.
I recommend you check around for books and sites about living wheat-free. Those will be able to give you nutrition tips, recipe ideas, and advice including on how to use the assortment of grains out there.
Any concerns you have about your health you should take to your physician. A nutritionist will be able to answer your questions about eating on a planned diet, and help you with meal plans.
Best of luck!
Wow, I never really understood vegetarians.
first of all, make sure not to eat too much soy…it has been shown to have negative effects on people who eat it all day every day.
Yes, Avocados, nuts, coconut milk, those things al have high fat contentr without wheat
there bo different sooo i guess your gonna be ok :D yay right? =)
I’m vegan, and have a gluten sensitivity. I was a vegan for two years before I found out about the gluten. It is definitely still possible to be healthy. You need to eat more than fruit, veggies, and soy though. Try eating brown rice or quinoa everyday. You should also add beans to your diet at least a couple times a week. They are really the best vegan source of protein out there.
