Since you’re in training for cross-country, you’ll need to pack a lunch with a sufficient amount of calories to give you the amount of energy you need, and you’ll also want a lunch with a balance of foods from all food groups. Here are some examples of lunches you could bring:
1. Peanut butter sanwich with whole wheat bread, a carton of milk and an apple
2. Sandwich with veggies and meat, fruit juice and a yogurt
3. Crackers with peanut butter, a cheese stick, a fruit and a nutrition bar such as NutriGrain or Kashi GoLean or Clif
4. Soup (you can bring it in a thermos to keep it warm) with cheese and crackers and a carton of milk
5. Salad with grilled chicken, cheese and dressing with a yogurt topped with cereal
Just some ideas I came up with, and all of them have most of the food groups. I wasn’t sure of exactly how many calories or how much you wanted to eat at lunch, so I tried to just include ideas that were healthy and had a variety of nutrients.
Hope it helped
